Some of the greatest inventions of my lifetime have been from looking at nature and copying. I found out tadigrades in outer space have the ability to repair their own DNA when exposed to radiation thousands of time higher than what it would take to kill a human being. Can the tardigrade's genome be mapped and the section of DNA responsible for repairing radiation damage be duplicated? Would that be a good thing? Could a stem cell with that section of DNA make our astronauts safer?

Would that be a good thing?

Recent research from the Samson lab at MIT suggests that there are side effects from amplifying the DNA repair mechanism.

Hyperactivity of a base-excision repair (BER) protein called AAG in mice caused a positive feedback loop in DNA repair signaling that triggered macrophages to attack retinal cells, leading to a cycle of increased inflammation, photoreceptor (PR) necrosis, and ultimately blindness.

From the linked paper:

In this study, we demonstrated that programmed necrosis and subsequent inflammation are important mediators of AAG-dependent alkylation-induced PR cell loss in male mice… We showed that PR cells present necrotic morphology and oxidative DNA damage after the induction of PR cell death with alkylating agents; furthermore, we observed that PARylation in the PR nuclei is associated with the release of HMGB1, increased macrophage infiltration, and elicitation of an inflammatory response.

Another research project looked at a DNA repair protein called ATM in mice, where hyperactivity or overexpression may be implicated in Alzheimer's and Huntington's diseases. Knock-down mutants show reduced expression of this protein and reduced neural damage.

Ignoring the larger ethical questions of splicing genes into human beings, and the technical questions of how to get said genes inserted, transcribed, and translated in the right place at the right time in the right way, it would likely require considerable study to see what the systematic effects might be from expression of tardigrade or other organisms' DNA repair genes in humans.

At the very least, these papers suggest that the biology is complex enough that turning up the dial on repair machinery could cause serious health problems downstream, as much as it might confer greater protection from radiation or other environmental damage.

Iodine Treatments for Radiation Exposure

Clearly we are just at the beginning of this disaster and very far from its end, and already it is unprecedented in scope. “If this accident stops right now it will already be one of the three worst accidents we have ever had at a nuclear power plant in the history of nuclear power,” said Joseph Cirincione, an expert on nuclear materials and president of the U.S.-based Ploughshares Fund, a firm involved in security and peace funding.

There is absolutely zero chance that this disaster in progress is going to stop now or any time soon, so precautions need to be taken right away by every citizen in the northern hemisphere that is downwind and on the track of the jet stream that will quickly carry radioactive materials first to North America then to Europe and beyond to Russia. This is all going to be much worse than people want to believe, so rush to get your iodine right now! Get your hands on whatever you can for in a few days there will be no iodine to have of any type.

Dr. Brownstein writes, “If there is enough inorganic, non-radioactive iodine in our bodies, the radioactive fallout has nowhere to bind in our bodies. It will pass through us, leaving our bodies unharmed. It is important to ensure that we have adequate iodine levels BEFORE this fallout hits.” There is some very important information about iodine below not being presented by the government or press. This is an IMVA Emergency Alert and we will be updating this document in the days and weeks ahead so check back to the IMVA blog for the most current form.

Think again, think seven times again before you leap and start construction of new nuclear power plants. – Mikhail Gorbachev – June 2006

Though the United States, Canadian and European governments are not warning their citizens of the dangers that will drop down on them from the jet stream, this following video does a good visual job of showing what areas will be most affected. With the true size of the catastrophe starting to take shape populations downwind across the entire northern hemisphere had better start becoming concerned enough to secure supplies of iodine to protect themselves from one large part of the radioactive dangers.
Humans tolerate large doses of iodine so the very high dosages recommended for protection for radioactive iodine are not usually a problem except for those who already have serious problems with their thyroids, which is quite a lot of people considering how many are deficient in this vital nutrient. The government’s recommendation of a onetime pulse dose might perhaps be appropriate when confronted with a nuclear blast but for chronic long term exposure, which is suggested with what is in progress in Japan, calls for different formula and dosages through time.

Dr. Michael B. Schachter says, “The treatment dose when a person is iodine insufficient is generally between 12.5 mg and 50 mg daily. Preliminary research indicates that if a person is iodine insufficient, it takes about three months to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 50 mg of iodine daily and a year to achieve that while ingesting a dosage of 12.5 mg of iodine daily.

If radiation threatens, it behooves people to start taking the highest dosages tolerable to protect not only their thyroids but also all the glandular tissues as well. Iodine protects the thyroid, breasts, prostate and ovary glands as well as other tissues in the body from radiation if present in sufficient quantities.

When treating life-threatening diseases we do not have months to fool around with low dosages. We need to zoom up iodine levels quickly. And we need to get it concentrated to certain tissues or organs. Just to give you an idea of how high iodine dosages have been taken we have to revisit the 1930s when iodine was still a universal medicine present in the U.S. Pharmacopeia and used at much higher dosages than anyone even dreams of using today.

The usual dose for treatment back then was 300 mgs (46 drops of full strength Lugol’s) to 1 gm (1000 mg, 154 drops). It is very important to realize that today’s Lugol’s is not universally the same as it was because of new federal legal requirements about concentration levels. The best company offers Lugol’s at varying concentration levels.

Potassium iodide (also called KI) is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine. Stable iodine is an important chemical needed by the body to make thyroid hormones. Following a radiological or nuclear event, radioactive iodine may be released into the air and then breathed into the lungs of any being breathing that air. Radioactive iodine may also contaminate the local food supply and get into the body through food or drink. In the case of internal contamination with radioactive iodine, the thyroid gland quickly absorbs this chemical. Radioactive iodine absorbed by the thyroid can then injure the gland. Because non-radioactive iodine acts to block radioactive iodine from being taken into the thyroid gland, it can help protect this gland from injury.
There will be little or no time to consult doctors and other health care practitioners to get the proper dosage. The standard dose for potassium iodide during radiation emergencies: For infants, babies and children, KI is administered for exposure of 5 centigrays (cGy) or more. For birth through 1 month, 16 mg can be administered for 1 month through 3 years, 32 mg can be administered for 3-12 years, 65 mg can be administered for adolescents ages 12-18 years, 65 mg can be administered (or up to 120 mg if the adolescent is approaching adult size).

Nascent Iodine

Nascent iodine, though more expensive, actually tastes and feels good while going down and is gentle enough to give to children, who do not seem to complain about its taste. My recommendation would be to use the Nascent Iodine in high dosages to both saturate the thyroid (which makes it less vulnerable to chemical and radioactive attack) while it will also knock out any contaminants already absorbed. Nascent iodine contains approximately 400 mcg per drop so 10 drops is 4 mg and 100 drops is only 40 so it’s safe to take much higher dosages than is suggested on the bottle. In fact one has to completely ignore the suggested dosages on the bottle and take some of the information below as ones guidance for dealing with threatening radiation dropping down out of the clouds that are moving along with the jet stream.

One hundred drops a day is a strong dose, but when treating life threatening diseases it would not be unheard of to use upward of 200 drops a day in divided doses, but if you get your iodine on the day the news is sounding the radiation alarm I would jump right to 100 drops or 50 drops in divided dosages for children. It is my belief that the Nascent atomic form is much more efficient than the molecular form meaning you would need less but when confronted with a cloud of radiation one wants to work beyond the speculative. Again the government is recommending a onetime dosage, which makes sense if there is no time to address iodine deficiencies.

It normal conditions it is important to remember that one should not shoot straight up to these dosage levels rather, start at low dosages and monitor for detoxification reactions, which will be less if sodium bicarbonate and other substances are used in conjunction with it. But in emergencies involving radiation we have not the luxury of time so one has to thrust iodine levels up sharply in burst dosages.

Dr. Brownstein said he was using 200-300 mg with his prostate and breast cancer patients, and those who have metastases needing the highest dosages. He also uses both Lugol’s and Nascent reserving the Nascent for his more sensitive patients. There is also the tablet form of varying dosages (Iodoral), which is used by more than several of the iodine doctors I know.

Iodine is needed in microgram amounts for the thyroid, milligram amounts for breast and other tissues, and can be used therapeutically in gram amounts. Dr. David Miller

Potassium iodide can be found in many health food stores. Combinations of iodide/iodine can be obtained from holistic physicians. Iodoral, Iodozyme HP, and Lugol’s solution are examples of this form of iodine. I prefer the Nascent iodine, especially for children, because it is gentler on the system being that it is in the atomic form making it easy for the body to convert it into the needed forms—iodide and iodine.

These onetime high pulse dosages of potassium iodine are necessary during an emergency but they do not come without some risk of side effects, which include: severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue), black, tarry stools, confusion, fever, irregular heartbeat, metallic taste in the mouth, mouth sores, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, skin rash, stomach pains, swelling in the neck or throat, unusual tiredness, weakness.

Endocrinologic side effects have included both hyper- and hypothyroidism. By inhibiting the release of thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland, iodide can cause goiter and hypothyroidism. This has been called the Wolff-Chaikoff effect, occurring in approximately four percent of patients and may be more likely in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Iodide may induce hyperthyroidism, called the Jod-Basedow effect, when given to patients with preexisting iodide deficiency or autonomous, “hot” thyroid nodules. Iodide can cause parotid gland swelling.

Usually, side effects of potassium iodide happen when people take higher doses for a long time but they can occur from taking the government’s recommended onetime pulse dose. The standard warning from the mainstream is that “we should be careful not to take more than the recommended dose or take it for longer than you are told,” which is only once. “Side effects are unlikely because of the low dose and the short time you will be taking the drug.” This is not good advice at all since too-low dosages will not protect one from the radioactive iodine fallout and the short time of application is absolutely out of the question when the fallout will be continuous, as it will be because of the continuous venting of radioactive materials into the atmosphere at the crippled Japanese reactor sites.

When faced with a radioactive cloud it is absolutely imperative that you take iodine, whatever iodine you can get your hands on. If the only iodine available is topical iodine that is not suitable for oral use then you should paint your body and your children’s bodies with it. Few people have ready access to the Nascent iodine so will not enjoy its ease of application in repeated measured dosages that are more gentle to the system, thus yielding fewer side effects. Because Nascent is in the atomic form (I¹), it is absorbed faster and that can also be advantageous in emergency situations. Its only downside is the expense of having to use so much of it.

Harmful Effects of Radiation Exposure

The harmful effects of radiation exposure are many and varied. Some effects go unnoticed, only to cause cancers months or years later.

Before exposure and immediately after exposure, you should act quickly to prevent absorption and remove radioactive substances from the body. There are a number of supplements and compounds that can help you detoxify and prevent damage. Each acts differently and some, like Iodine, are specific to only one radioisotope, so plan to use all of these methods, or as many as possible, for best results.

Natural Treatment for Radiation Side Effects

To date, the use of alternative medicine in the treatment of radiation side effects has not been extensively studied. Furthermore, since certain natural therapies may interfere with the effects of radiation treatment, it's extremely important to talk with your doctor before using any type of alternative medicine while undergoing radiation (and to let him or her know about any natural remedies or alternative therapies you're already using).

Here's a look at several types of natural treatments studied for their effects on people receiving radiation therapy:

Side Effects of Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy does more harm than good. There are short term effects of radiation therapy and longer term effects. The more serious ones are cancer, DNA damage, internal bleeding, infertility, swollen organs, amnesia and inability to stay healthy. Here is a list of the most common Side Effects of Radiation Therapy:

  • immune systemsuppression (you get sick all the time now)
  • skin blistering
  • skin itching and irritation
  • chronic diarrhea
  • hair loss
  • nausea feelings
  • vomiting
  • sexual changes (such as impotence, vaginal dryness, and pain during sex)
  • body swelling
  • difficulty swallowing
  • painful discharge or urination
  • incontinence (peeing your pants)

Don’t wait till you come down with symptoms, but take precautions now to protect your health.

Symptoms of Radiation Sickness

Exposure to harmful types of radiation cause visible and invisible damage to every cell in your body. There are many signs and Symptoms of Radiation Sickness you should be aware of so you can take immediate action if you have received a harmful dosage of radiation. Here are the most common signs of radiation sickness:

  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Feeling Confused
  • Fainting
  • Bleeding from the Mouth, Nose and Rectum
  • Easily Bruising
  • Open Sores that don’t heal
  • Dehydration
  • Chronic Diarrhea
  • Bloody Diarrhea or Discharge
  • Fever
  • Hair Loss and Balding
  • Inflammation of Skin Exposure Areas
  • Nausea and Vomiting (including bloody vomit)
  • Mouth Ulcers or Sores
  • Ulcers in the Esophagus, Stomach and Intestines (Severe IBS)

If you have any of the above radiation sickness symptoms then you should take action asap using the natural remedies listed at the bottom of this article so you can limit and even reverse the damage done by harmful radiation including medical radiation treatments. You can see the negative effects of radiation therapy below.

Potassium Iodide: An Antidote for Radiation Exposure

Potassium iodide (KI) is an inorganic compound that is available from three manufacturers under different brand names as an antidote to radiation exposure. From a chemistry point of view, it is made from potassium hydroxide and iodine, and it is the most produced iodide compound in the world. It is preferred over sodium iodide salt because it is less hygroscopic and easier to handle it is an odorless and stable white crystalline powder. Among its other applications, it is used in the photography industry to form silver iodide and in chemical laboratories as a source of iodide in organic synthesis. KI is also used in biomedical research as a fluorescence quencher through its iodide ion. Upon extended exposure to air, KI becomes yellow as a result of the liberation of iodine, and small quantities of iodate may be formed due to oxidation. 1

Although KI has several medical and nutritional applications, its most important application is as an antidote to radiation. Recently, KI has been in high demand in the United States due to the warning about remote radiation exposure from the recent Japanese nuclear plant radioactive releases. 2 For medical purposes, a saturated solution of KI is used to treat lung congestion (as an expectorant) and sporotrichosis (a fungal infection) and as an antiseptic in sore throats.

KI's value as a radiation protective or antithyroid agent was demonstrated at the time of the Chernobyl nuclear accident when Russian authorities distributed KI in a 30-km zone around the plant. The purpose was to protect residents from the radioactive iodine, the most abundant and highly carcinogenic material found in nuclear reactors, that had been released by the damaged reactors. 2,3

KI is supplied as 130-mg tablets for emergency purposes. It may also be administered as a viscous saturated solution of potassium iodide (SSKI). This formulation provides 250 mg of iodide per each five drops. According to the USP, each two drops of this solution (containing 100 mg of iodide) have the same amount of iodide as a 130-mg tablet of KI (130 mg = 100 mg iodide). 2

Thyroid Protection After Nuclear Accidents/Events

KI was approved by the FDA in 1982 to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine released accidentally from nuclear power plants or during a nuclear attack. In these events, many radionuclide products may be discharged to the atmosphere. Of these products, I 131 is one of the most common, and it is particularly dangerous to the thyroid gland. 1

By saturating the body with a source of stable iodide such as KI prior to exposure, inhaled or ingested I 131 will be excreted from the body, and as a result, radioiodine uptake by the thyroid gland will not take place. The protective effect of KI lasts approximately 24 hours. For optimal prophylaxis, KI must be dosed daily until the risk of significant exposure to radioiodine by either inhalation or ingestion no longer exists.

Doses of 130 mg KI provide 100 mg iodide, which is roughly 700 times greater than the normal nutritional need for iodine of 150 mcg (0.15 mg, as iodide) per day for an adult. The KI in iodized salt is insufficient for this use, as 80 tablespoons would be needed to equal one tablet. See TABLE 1 for the recommended FDA dosing regimen for humans. 2 KI cannot protect against any other causes of radiation poisoning or against radionuclide other than radioisotopes of iodine.

Dosing Equivalency:For protection of the thyroid against I 131 contamination, the convenient standard 130-mg KI pill is used, if available. As noted, the equivalent two drops of SSKI may be used for this purpose if the pills are not available.

Protecting Effect:When KI is administered simultaneously with radiation exposure, the protective effect is approximately 97%. KI given 12 and 24 hours before exposure yields a 90% and 70% protective effect, respectively. However, KI administered 1 and 3 hours after exposure results in an 85% and 50% protective effect, respectively. KI administered more than 6 hours after exposure is thought to have a negligible protective effect. 4

It was reported on March 16, 2011, that KI tablets were given prophylactically to U.S. Naval air crewmembers flying within 70 miles of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant damaged in the massive Japanese earthquake (8.9/9.0 magnitude) and ensuing tsunami on March 11, 2011. The measures were seen as precautions, and the Pentagon said no U.S. forces have shown signs of radiation poisoning. By March 20, the U.S. Navy had also instructed personnel coming within 100 miles of the reactor to take the pills as a precautionary measure. 5,6

Radionuclide Iodine in Nuclear Medicine

As opposed to the harmful release of I 131 in nuclear disasters, an iodide radionuclide in different radiopharmaceutical forms (and not necessarily as KI) is used in nuclear medicine for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. 7 The thyroid gland absorbs nearly all of the iodine in the blood. When enough of the medical form of I 131 is taken into the thyroid, it can destroy the thyroid gland and any other thyroid cells (including cancer cells) that take up iodine, with little effect on the rest of the body. The radioactive iodine is usually given as a capsule or liquid. This treatment can be used to destroy any thyroid tissue not removed by surgery or to treat thyroid cancer that has spread to lymph nodes and other parts of the body.

Radioactive iodine therapy has been shown to improve the survival rate of patients with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer (differentiated thyroid cancer) that has spread to the neck or other body parts, and this treatment is now the standard practice in such cases. Radioactive iodine therapy cannot be used to treat undifferentiated and medullary thyroid carcinomas because these types of cancer do not take up iodine.

Although this intentional hypothyroidism is temporary, it often causes symptoms such as tiredness, depression, weight gain, sleepiness, constipation, muscle aches, and reduced concentration. An injectable form of thyrotropin is now available that can increase a patient's thyroid-stimulating hormone level to overcome some of these symptoms.

Many medical experts recommend that women avoid becoming pregnant for 6 months to a year after treatment. No ill effects have been noted in children whose parents received radioactive iodine in the past.

Other Medical Applications

There are a number of labeled and unlabeled medical applications for KI.

Preoperative Thyroidectomy:KI in doses of 50 to 250 mg (1-5 drops SSKI) three times/day is administered for 10 days before thyroid surgery. 8

Thyrotoxic Crisis:SSKI can be an emergency treatment for hyperthyroidism or thyroid storm in doses of 250 mg (5 drops SSKI) every 6 hours. High amounts of iodide temporarily suppress secretion of thyroxine from the thyroid gland. 8

Expectorant:KI is used for the symptomatic treatment of chronic pulmonary diseases complicated by mucus. Iodide solutions made from a few drops of SSKI added to drinks have been used as expectorant to increase the water content of respiratory secretions and encourage effective coughing.

Sporotrichosis (Cutaneous, Lymphocutaneous): Oral: Initially, five drops (SSKI) three times/day increase to 40 to 50 drops (SSKI) three times/day as tolerated until 2 to 4 weeks after lesions have resolved (usual duration 3-6 months). KI has been used in symptomatic treatment of erythema nodosum for persistent lesions whose cause remains unknown. It has also been used in cases of erythema nodosum associated with Crohn's disease. 9

Nutritional Applications

As a nutritional supplement, KI is the most common additive to table salt to prevent iodine deficiency in populations that consume little seafood. Because KI is slowly oxidized from air exposure, it is replaced in certain products by potassium iodate, which is not lost by oxidation. 10

None of the available pharmaceutical formulations (SSKI or KI tablets) are intended for use as nutritional supplements, due to the very high concentration of iodine. The nutritional requirement for iodine in humans is only 150 mcg (0.15 mg) of iodide per day.

There are natural sources of iodide for nutritional purposes. Kelp is a natural KI source. One-quarter cup of kelp supplies only 9 calories and 276.7% of daily iodine needs. The iodide content is about 89 mcg/g in Asian varieties. Another natural source of iodide is seaweed. Dried, unrinsed seaweed (3-5 g) will provide the recommended daily allowance of 100 to 150 mcg of iodide for nutritional purposes. Other natural sources are seafood, asparagus, turnip greens, spinach, and Swiss chard. 10

Adverse Reactions

There have been some reports of KI treatment causing swelling of the parotid gland (one of the three glands that secrete saliva), because of its stimulatory effects on saliva production. Other reported adverse reactions reported include irregular heartbeat, skin rash, diarrhea, metallic taste, stomach upset, joint pain, numbness, and tingling.

Chronic iodine poisoning from prolonged treatment or high doses can cause iodism, hypersensitivity reactions that are manifested as angioedema, cutaneous and mucosal hemorrhage, and serum sickness-like symptoms. 4

Drug Interactions

Potassium salts may enhance the hyperkalemic effect of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and potassium-sparing diuretics. KI may enhance the hypothyroid effect of lithium. Antithyroid agents may diminish the anticoagulant effect of vitamin K antagonists. In all these cases, therapy should be carefully monitored, and dosing adjustments should be made. 4

Pregnancy/Lactation Considerations

Iodide crosses the placenta and, therefore, may cause hypothyroidism and goiter in the fetus or newborn. The use of KI is contraindicated as an expectorant during pregnancy by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Its use for protection against thyroid cancer secondary to radioactive iodine exposure is considered acceptable based upon risk-to-benefit ratio, dose, and duration. The AAP recommends avoiding breast-feeding following radioactive iodine exposure. It may cause skin rash in a nursing infant. 4

KI cannot prevent radioactive iodine from entering the body. KI can protect only the thyroid from radioactive iodine, but not other parts of the body. In addition, KI cannot reverse the health effects caused by radioactive iodine once damage to the thyroid has happened. KI cannot protect the body from radioactive elements other than radioactive iodine if radioactive iodine is not present, taking KI is not protective.

Three companies (Anbex Inc., Fleming Pharmaceuticals, and Recipharm AB) currently have FDA approval for manufacturing and testing of KI. These companies offer IOSAT (130 mg), Thyroshield (65 mg), and Thyro-Safe (65 mg), respectively.

Radiation Poisoning Remedies

If you are concerned that you have suffered or will suffer a radiation exposure, there are precautions you can take. Potassium iodide or KI pills (in a 130 mg dose) are the typical prophylactic treatment for radiation poisoning, if you know you are about to suffer a radiation exposure. You may more easily find or have heard of SSKI (a saturated solution of potassium iodide), two drops of which represent an effective treatment for adults (adolescents 3-18 years of age should receive a half-dose of any iodine treatment). If you live in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant, you can very likely get free KI pills to keep as First Aid for your family in the event of a radiation release.

KI only protects against a specific type of exposure, but it is proven very effective in preventing thyroid cancer. The iodine in the pill or solution prevents the body from taking up the radioactive iodine released in a nuclear accident. This threat is the most critical in a nuclear emergency, and so KI or SSKI treatment is highly recommended before and during exposure. The idea is that the KI fulfills the body's/thyroid's daily requirement for iodine, so that there is no space left to take up the poisonous radioiodine. This means you should take the recommended KI or SSKI dosage at least several hours before the predicted arrival of any radiation release and continue taking maintenance doses until the danger has passed.

Border Crossing X-Ray Remedies

X-ray crossing border gives my husband headaches and bad taste in mouth. Is there something he can take or wear or use to alleviate it and prevent it? It can't be good for him. He is a owner/operator of his own truck and goes across the Canadian/American border probably once a week. They scan the whole truck, including him.

Darla: Hot baths w/ 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup epsom salts. Vit-C w/ citrus bioflavonoids will help as will the herb sarsaparilla.

Darla: The water in fruit is highly charged good energy that cancels the highly charged bad energy in x-rays. The fruit has to be organic because nutrients and 0 pesticides are required. Berries are best because they have the most nutrients. As the fruit ripens the plant increases the energies to attract herbivores to eat them so as to propagate the seeds. Live ferments also have this highly charged water. Kombucha would be good.

Hi ,if you would like to do some research on a product called DMSO, which is a natural product. In the information there is some explanations on how to use, or just go ahead and buy the book. I have a friend about to receive radiation to treat throat cancer as well as chemo. There is info about how the DMSO protects the body from radiation by spraying onto the skin, also taking it orally before radiation treatment. There is a lot of info on the net youtube and so forth

I think you should see a GOOD attorney AND a doctor experienced with nuclear medicine.

I would expect that the amount of radiation used to SEE THROUGH THE TRUCK is WAY TOO MUCH to expose people to. I hope you can get them to stop this insanity at the border crossing.

He should insist of getting out for medical reasons, if he can.

CT Scan Side Effects

I was reading kidney stones posts and noticed that everyone was having CT scans. Don't you know that ONE CT scan can cause cancer later in life and is equal to: 100-250 chest x-rays 1,400 dental x-rays 240 Five Hour flights 70,000 airport scans 19 years of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Age is a significant factor. A 3 year old female has a 1 in 500 chance of developing cancer from an abdominal CT.

EC : Thanks, Sam.

We found an interesting article on the subject from Consumer Reports here.

Medical Radiation trapped in bones - will Bloodroot pull the radiation out of the vertebra and CNS tumor? If not, what therapy will? Can the immune system detox it naturally?

Probably the most effective method for rapid radiation removal would be a whole body hot bath w/ 1/4 cup Epsom Salt, 1/4 cup Baking Soda or Borax for 1 hr. 15 minutes into the bath take 2-4 caps of Sarsaparilla herb.

One bath should be sufficient but if not feeling any better maybe fallow with 1 or 2 more.

For a follow-up of the baths, you may also consider "Earthing" remedies found here on E.C. under that title.

Detoxing from Radiation Remedies

Having radiation treatment for lung cancer. Any suggestions on how to maintain the health I do have and head off any side effects? From what I hear, pain appears months later. I'd like get rid of the cancer and also avoid pain if possible. Thanks.

My first recommendation would have been to avoid chemotherapy and radiation treatment if you want to improve your chances of recovering from cancer. This makes recovering from radiation a non problem. Survival rate for conventional treatment is between 3 to 5 percent.

Given that you had radiation therapy that is toxic to your immune system, this is somewhat spilled milk. What happens to many of such patients is that they seek out alternative methods after their systems have been too damaged by conventional therapy so their odds of successful treatment with alternative is probably cut in half. You really require someone with expertise to guide you in terms of what your options are at this point. I always give these links as starting points for people with cancer.

Radiation induced Hair Loss: Get some garlic, break it into half and rub it all over the head to encourage hair growth. Garlic is very useful for detoxing the body of toxins.

Hair Oil

1 User Review

my daughter who is now 15 years old rec'd radiation treatment on her head for a brain tumor. can you tell me if there is anything that can be done to help her hair grow back. some hair has grown back, but very thin and there is stll a big area where no hair has grown back. is there something she can take to regrow her hair? If not, i am considering hair transplant for her. i would appreciate an answer from ted or anyone out there who has been in this same situation.

This is to the lady who's 15 year old daughter needs something to help hair grow. there is a lady on ebay selling "sweet success hair grown oil" on ebay. I have never used it, but she has a lot of feedback from many people who have bought it from her. its all natural.

I know this is an old post I am responding to, but thought maybe someone else had the same issue, so posting this anyway.

Adele Davis, nutrition expert from the 1960's had a remedy for hair growth. I don't have the book handy, but I remember the cure was vodka, white iodine and cayenne mixture massaged into scalp. I think it was like 1/4 cup vodka, with 5 drops of decolorized (white) iodine (regular iodine will temporarily stain your scalp and hair! ) and 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, done several times per week. I'm sorry I don't remember exact amounts, but it does make sense that iodine would help since radiation causes a deficiency of iodine. Look for a used copy of Adele's book "Let's Get Well" on Amazon for the recipe maybe? It's a very old book from the 1960's, but great info in it.. One of my favs still!

Another remedy to stimulate hair growth is one I do daily. I pour my sulfate free shampoo into my hand and mix 6 drops of essential rosemary oil with it, then vigorously scrub my scalp and leave it on scalp a few minutes while I finish shower, then rinse. Avoid eyes as it may temporarily burn!

The homeopathic remedy 'X-ray' (made from X-ray radiation) is used to counteract the effects of radiation exposure (from diagnostic x-rays, radiation treatment for cancer, etc. ). The potency is not necessarily very important here the 'standard' 30C is usually the easiest to find. Same goes for the dosage schedule -- a few drops mixed into water, taken as soon after exposure occurs, should be sufficient some people prefer a single dose, others favour multiple doses, depending on the homeopathic philosophy to which they subscribe. This remedy should be available from most large homeopathic suppliers.

My chiropractor has found something very interesting using kinesiology: If one holds two containers of Xray herb tablets, one in each hand, for about 10 minutes, the effect of most "normal" types of radiation can be neutralized. "Normal" radiation means the cumulative effect of radiation from cell phones, wireless routers, microwave ovens, cell phone antennas, "smart meters" from utility companies, and so on. The containers of the Xray herb tablets should be held for 10 minutes at least 2 to 3 times per week. My chiropractor mentioned that it's particularly important for people with amalgam dental fillings to have the radiation neutralized.

Being on the west coast of the US, he has said that this method is also very likely to help regarding the radiation coming from Japan

Please let me know what is 'Xray herb tablet' and where it can be purchased? Thanks!

I hate to be the one to shine the light on the gravity of what we're in, but it seems many of you dear people are dangerously unaware. If you'd care to educate yourselves with the enormity of our situation, here's the proof:

When did we stop questioning those who would place themselves in positions of authority? How strong is power of denial?

I'm sorry, I just had to laugh at this. Suggesting that the Japan earthquake was a military strike.. I'll just file that one in my chem trail. Fake moon landing, 9-11 conspiracy folder. That said, I do heed the warnings of scientists such as Dr. Helen Caldicott. Who has been warning us of the dangers of the nuclear industry since the 70's. I suggest people look her up instead.

Hi Rob, I don't mind if I risk you calling me silly but I am sure that many of the facts that we take for granted today are not at all true and will find it out in the future as we have found out about many other things. I prefer to keep an open mind which often helps me to keep track of the lies we are told. The time I thought all facts presented to us were true is long gone, unfortunately. I would prefer to live in a different world but there you go, there isn't any!

More and more I start to think about things that happened and realising that reality is probably not at all what we think. There is a real world and a world that is created in our minds and they are not at all similar just if we knew the whole truth we might start to rebel! Without wanting to go into politics, which is not the aim of this site but just to give you a little example, all this mess with Bin Laden will surprise many of us in the future, believe me! I have my theories.

Francisca, I have to agree w/ you! This world is not what it appears to be. Still we must live our best life and help raise the consciousness of our planet. Blessings to you!

Salut Francisca, tout d'abord , je voudrais dire , que je vous envie de vivre dans la plus belle région de France . No, "silly" judgement from here.. :) I like to keep an open mind as well, though believe that we are allowed to be skeptical of information coming our way. Some things are impossible to prove and so we must allow personal reason to make our conclusions. Jac presented 3 videos, the 2nd, with Helen Caldicott, I did find credible.. The other two I will need a lot more sound information than a person stating they are a "scientist". For me to take it as fact. I did dismiss it based on my own logic & there was no reasons put forth as to the "why" or what advantage this would be to the aggressors. I realize the world isn't what it seems and can sight some absolute references of how the public is manipulated.

But on the whole I feel a good dose of positive skepticism is healthy. In pertaining to this site the use of the word "cure" can be tossed about quite irresponsibly where a little more caution would prove prudent. Still, I am open, & willing to update my opinion, just give me the info.. and in many cases the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Hi again Rob, by the way, I am not French, I happen to be Portuguese and just live here but my ancestors were French. True, Alsace is partly a beautiful region, the walks here on our doorstep are amazing but there is money around here because of Switzerland and Germany being next door and they are damaging the region's beauties really fast! We are moving out anyway, somewhere where there is still peace and quiet!

I haven't had the time to watch the video's yet but I read a lot and the more I read the more I am able to spot all the indoctrination going around. One has to have the eyes wide open. And yes, sometimes I also get carried away by a "cure" only to find out that something worked temporarily and I don't always have the time to rectify things here but I should! Loads of good information here though.

Blessings to you too Lisa. very true words.

Rob-from NY Every thing in one's life is fact or fantacy. The only way I learned most things in life was trial & error, correct? As a meaning of a cure, the items we try are harmless and well worth trying, but let me remind you it only works mostly on believers. What works on one person may not work on another being that we all live different lives, we eat different foods, we think differently etc. I am a great believer in all that has taken place in this forum so therefore every thing I have tried has worked 100% for me and my pets.

Should you mistrust or debate this forum maybe this isn't the place you want to be(?)

But if you do! Your welcome and good luck with what ever you choose.

I'll take from these few responses a need to be more specific in future posts. It may have seemed insensitve in my choosing to laugh at the stated Fact that the Japan earthquake was a military strike. But in defense of laughter, I would argue that it is a healthy choice. Before someone wants me to accept yet another dark truth about humanity where it could possibly cause more harm to my health, they will need to back up their hunches and notions with solid evidence. A good healthy laugh doesn't mean one is forever close to the facts. What does anger me is that these people are stating as fact without facts & what should be theory.

With my reference to cures. For instance. Bill Munro from Michigan writes: "I am convinced that my hydrogen peroxide inhalation remedy will cure HIV and AIDS.".

. based on what is he convinced? a hunch, a notion, did he have a scientific trial, perhaps because it has helped with other viruses he draws this conlusion, but does he know of anyone who has been cured of hiv with this. This is after someone with HIV stated that he tried it and his T-cell count fell dramatically. But according to some he probably didn't believe enough. And now I should leave this board for questioning such a response. Rubbish.. Would you say to the person going blind after chosing placebo over penicillin for Syphillis they just didn't believe enough. or someone who died of cancer after trying Essiac tea, just didn't believe enough.

To be in accord, I agree that there is much to gain from this site. The act of stating I tried a remedy and this or that was the result is valuable. There is nothing wrong with a questioning approach. One should take into account the placebo effect as well the decline effect. Many posts are usually within a day or two after trying the remedy with no follow up. Would this person still report the same effect a week or month later. On the whole I find this site fascinating and valuable and undoubtly has helped many people as it has myself.

You can't say you weren't warned.

I watched several of her vids. She does know what she is talking about, she was trained in radiation/molecular research and bases her data on facts for scientific things and what she finds out about people by personal knowledge by interaction or their statments and contracts w/businesses. Evidently her past training and experiences have put her in the circle of most of these people whether she wanted to know them or not, and she uses this information to connect the dots. I was totally appalled by what I heard on everything, but the radiation levels the most. So they are planetwide affecting all of us now. Even the owner of this site admits to high radiation in areas around his homeland.

Responding to the posting by Jac: There are several hypotheses explaining what caused the disaster at Fukushima, some of them from scientists: an earthquake, HAARP energy, an underwater military weapon, a weapon planted inside one of the Fukushima reactors, the Stuxnet virus, and recently this one from a physicist at the University of Rhode Island:

It is not yet known what caused the tsunami or the explosions at Fukushima. That it was an earthquake is difficult to correlate with the video footage of the tsunami waves arriving to Fukushima buildings and vehicles that were still standing and undamaged. An M9 earthquake (many times stronger than the 1995 Kobe earthquake) would have leveled the Tohoku area (the prefecture Fukushima is in) and caused significant damage all the way to Tokyo. It is odd that few even of the alternative journalists have mentioned this anomaly. In one of her presentations or interviews Leuren Moret mentions that the M9 magnitude earthquake, announced officially by the Japanese, was at variance with the USGS estimate of M6.7. She assumes that an M9 earthquake would have been required to cause the tsunami, so the USGS estimate of M6.7 was incorrect. But it seems more plausible that the USGS M6.7 estimate was correct, and the U. S. gradually adjusted the number upwards to accommodate the Japanese official version.

Leuren Moret is a brilliant and well-informed geoscientist. Presenting hypotheses and drawing tentative conclusions from available data are part of the scientific method, and often there is disagreement about the conclusions. I think Moret could be more useful in her very noble attempts to inform the public if she sometimes were more cautious in forming conclusions and if she showed us more clearly how she arrived at them.

Yes, Leuren Moret is a radiation scientist with scientific contacts all over the world, she does know her stuff as she was trained under a very good scientist. She only goes on scientific fact, period. No woo-woo with her. She is giving out information to let humanity know what the heck is going on as we have the human right to know what is being done to us/around us. It's pretty bad folks.

The real danger is public perception. Youth are able to gobble down most anything and trot right on, so nothing seems amiss. But by mid-life, all the yrs of chronic bad food catches up and you find yourself having to take off work and getting very little help from drs. And then there's the problem of insurance and co-pays and a cabinet full of prescription meds to take on a daily basis. Couple yrs passes and not getting any better and beginning to get worse despite all the professional intervention.

All those yrs indulging entertainment and discarding education have taken the toll.

Irradiated Supplements

I heard about some gem dealers compalining their gems changed colors in the US postal mail and that usually happens when the mail is irradiated. Iodine is in a lot of supplements. If that gets raidated then that would work more against the thyroid. Is there any simple way to test for radioactivity in supplements like iodine? I try to buy my supplements from a store where it is more likely shipped by a truck but that isn't possible with all supplements. Coconut oil generally comes from the Philipines. Is this how codex alimentarius is being used? I was told the government was just irradiating federal mail but when the gem dealers were sending gems through the USPS and suspecting irradiation because of the gem changes (e. G. Pearl gets gray), it made me suspicious. Is a geiger meter what I need to test my supplement bottles?

I have been told to just expect all US mail by the post office to be x-rayed. Period. The UPS delivery lady at work told me 2 yrs ago that as of then (at her location) they weren't x-raying. Now, who knows. So I always ask how people are sending stuff. Food vendors are not required to tell us about any food that is pre-irradiated either anymore. At first they marked it, then there was a public outcry. Then a law was made where they didn't have to mark it. However, I have noticed in the last 10 yrs that food just doesn't "stay" in the fridge anymore like it used to.

Miso is effective for detoxing your body of radition. During World War 2, 2 hospital that were located side by side were hit with atomic radition, hospital A people consumed Miso and all of them survived while the other hospital people that did not take miso, many died. Miso is rich in vitamin B therefore it is suitable for vegetarian who are in shortage of vitamin B. For best results do not cook miso.

Would not use today at all---since it attacks the thyroid as a result of the goitregenic effect --this would be the last thing you would use --since again the Soy that is fermented today is in Aluminum not Lime like the chinese used and as well having sprayed on it Drano as well yesterday was another day and there methods were potentially cleaner then to day ---what they did then and what we need to do today is a wee bit difffernt---T

Way to be optimistic. There is nothing wrong with the suggestion that Miso may work. Your arrogant response, makes you seem, "holier than though" Think about how you treat people and value them. With your attitude, you will be first to go when sh###%%%##tt hits the fan. Think about that.

Dear Tan Koon - I totally agree with you MISO is a major part and I use organic miso which is wonderful and much better than any other type of soup. Thinking about vitamin B is interesting as again it supports the liver and this might be major factor in dealing with radioactivity. Thanks for your insights!

I'm wondering about the soy as it would be bad for estrogen receptive breast cancer survivor and this MISO is a soy based product.

Julia, Japanese women have vey low rates of breast cancer and they have miso. BUT the miso is properly fermented and via their diet they consume on average 12-13.5mg iodine daily. Sorry this does not answer your exact ?.

Multiple Remedies

Thought to include a few things about protecting ones' family from Fukushema meltdown, as this is an ongoing concern, especially for those of us on the West Coast. Iodine was put into salt in the fifties, because the gubmt was then doing nuclear testing in the South Seas and in Nevada. It is protective of the thyroid, if it is present in the body at the time of exposure, which is why it is used daily.

Here again is Vit. C to the rescue, as it nullifies a certain amount of radiation, up to a point. I mean, full bore radiation will get you, ya' know?

Red Panax Ginseng nullifies radiation also. Those little ampules with a straw available at health food stores. And it is smoky and delicious. I take it with some local bee pollen and the two are great together, as the ginseng is based in honey from another country.

I'm sure there are many other helpful things, like chlorella, or zeolite, for resolving the other toxins, strontium 90, etc. Any other suggestions? --T.

Waylit, melatonin is a multifaceted radioprotectant that has many studies to confirm it as such while having an excellent safety profile. Art

The bioflavonoid Rutin and the herb Sarsaparilla Root are indicated for radiation sickness. Leonard Harowitz recommends (for acute exposure) large amounts of Sodium Bicarbonate, especially as a whole body bath additive to "neutralize" radiation. Strontium can now be purchased as a mineral supplement, which would theoretically be, more efficient at driving out Strontium 90 than Calcium.

Iodine is very good for that, this is why there is virtually no cancer in Japan despite being near nuclear stations and any related incidents. If you can't get iodine tablets, try Lugol's. Here is an article on iodine for radiation

For those who haven't signed up to receive our newsletter, here is a link to our March 16th, 2011 newsletter on Radiation Remedies:

Here is a link to our follow-up email, correcting an error in the Potassium Iodide (SSKI) dosage mentioned in the newsletter:

Hi, thanks for this great info. I am familiar with the words sodium and potassium. May I ask you if you can help me get the following products:

potassium ascorbate and sodium ascorbate

The above is for detoxicating diabetes pancreas and to help a friend who has cancer to change his cells to positive millevolts.

can you help me in South Africa? These above are not availble here.

thanks in anticipation, allan

Our company has approximately 300 packs of 14 KI 130 mg available at $15 per pack plus shipping. Brand name is IOSAT.

EC : Hi Everyone,

Since many USA companies have sold out of KI, we are allowing companies and brand names in this thread. A few people have emailed us (such as Robert) in response to our newsletter with information and additional remedies.

Chlorella clearly removes radiation by restructuring cells DNA RNA.

Thank you! When the deadly Phosgene attacks took place on 1-1-11 We began drinking a drink composed of green powders (i. E. Hemp, Green Tea, Wheatgrass, Chlorella, and Spirulena) in not more than a cup of water. (stir well) Very reasonable and quick delivery at

It is good to take an Alpha Lipoic Acid capsule with this drink to make it more helpful to the body. (Their mushroom popcorn is really great, too! )Taking these help to fight off Phosgene and it seems radiation. If (or when) it comes here to Orange County, CA we will also take charcoal capsules (cheap at to rid our bodies of the radiation.)

Video on remedies for Radiation Exposure from Dr. Alejandro Junger here:

Also, tulsi leaves and tea are good for radiation exposure.

I see the posts and no one is even mentioning Baking soda and Chlorine baths for the removal of radiation---it amazes me how there is such a false bravado going on here and one person mentioned 130mgs---way over the top more like 80 mgs and consuming baking soda to reduce kidney damage from excreting the toxic rads out of the body---Vitamin A-Betacarotene-Vitamin C --Selenium--Sulfur are all needed as well--to rid and repair the system of any damage occuring. and go to the script of the show for March 2011 inside you will see the script for March 18 --feel free to download---and share the health.

Thank you for making this correction. I am Vice-President of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Montreal, part of a World-wide organization that lobbies for women's rights, anything to do with protecting women from violence, with their health and well-being, and whatever relates to their children, etc. , in the United Nations General Assembly ever year, and in US Congress, Canadian Parliament, and legislatures of governments around the World. On our national TV news station, we have just been informed that traces of radiation have been detected in California today.

Potassium Iodide protects the thyroid only. We must do more than protect just our thyroids from radiation. This is information I have just sent out around the World today, a propos the escalating situation in Japan and elsewhere:

Re: Japan's nuclear disaster, and the effects of radiation on our bodies, especially on those of our vulnerable children. My former physician, Dr. Carolyn Dean, now practicing in Hawai'i, tells us that the survivors of nuclear fallout in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, during WWII nuclear bombings, were the seaweed-eaters. Seaweed absorbs radiation, thus protecting our whole body when eaten. I add dulse to soup daily, and there are other types of seaweed just as powerful. Dr. Dean's website: see her March 17 issue for more protection tips:

Also, Foods such as apples, buckwheat and sunflower seeds cleanse us of radiation. Apples and sunflower seeds contain pectin which binds with and removes radioactive residues from the body. Buckwheat contains glucosides which protect us from the effects of radiation. Cereal grasses and other green foods like and chlorella and blue-green algae are also useful in cleansing our bodies of radiation. (1) Essential fatty acids such as flax seed oil renew cells which have been burned by radiation. Soaking in a bath with sea salt and baking soda draws toxins including radiation from the body.

Also, magnetic clay in your bath or even foot bath, draws out heavy metal toxins as well as radiation. Taking Potassium Iodide can unbalance one's body, although it may help inititially. Your newsletter is so influential. Please check this information out thoroughly, and tell people the above. It may not only save their lives, but also their future health.

Please stay cleansed, and healthy, yourself.

For people that have health issues like digestive, hormonal, and immune, that do not respond to numerous treatment recommendations and remedies both conventional and alternative alike, there is that silent, invisible threat of Radiation. Mineral deficiencies and the absence of fruit Pectin in the diet allow for a buildup, in the body, of toxic radioactive isotopes which are present in our soil, food, air, and water this world over.

Aside from radioactive isotopes as a result of nuclear bombs, and fallout from failed energy production, there is a natural source of radiation that has been infused in the earth soil & rock millions of yrs ago.

The USA's EPA has designated January as Radon Awareness month.

I'm not sure if you can post the name of a support here but I have been reading through a lot of the Radiation Remedies and no one has mentioned Ioguard which I think is the most powerful support out there. Also, Modifilan was used successfully after Chernobyl and I have tried both. I have done a lot of research after Fukashima and to my mind and with the studies that have been done, Ioguard is the one I trust. They say they developed for day to day exposure from cellphones, wi-fi, x-rays, etc. But it is the only product with DNA reductase which was proven to be the most powerful protectant and repair substance in a study with cancer patients receiving radiation therapy. I am not affiliated with these people in any way and the two products are not affiliated but wanted to share my research because I think it's important and it's only getting worse. Most people don't realize that radiation is still spewing from Fukashima daily and just because there is a news blackout doesn't mean it has ended. Also, our culture has become obsessed with radiation driven devices, forasking safety and health for convenience.

Sea Salt, Baking Soda

"If you are having any kind of radiation treatments, macrobiotic is the cure. Macrobiotics is very effective in curing radiation sickness and cancer. " ". brown rice, miso* and tamari soy sauce soup, wakame and other sea vegetables, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets ." "In case you missed it the secret to surviving all forms of radiation exposure is sea salt. If you are concerned about the radiation fallout from the Japan nuclear plants disaster or if you had an X-ray (from hospitals and airport screening) or radiation treatments for cancer, soak your body in sea salt (not iodized table salt ) baths to help pull out the radiation from your body. " ".. To pull the radiation poison out of the body, try bathing in half a cup of sea salt and half a cup of baking soda. Soak for at least 20-30 minutes, every day for three weeks or every other day for six weeks" "A tiny pinch of good quality sea salt in several glasses of distilled water each day will provide one with all the minerals and trace elements you need to rid your body of the radiation and stay healthy."

Basic radiation biology concepts include the traditional assumptions of Bergonie and Tribondeau, who stated in 1906 that any cells that are immature, undifferentiated and actively dividing (i.e., stomach mucosa, basal layer of skin, stem cells) are more radiosensitive. They respond by exhibiting some effect from radiation exposure that causes cell injury or death. Cells that are mature, differentiated and not actively dividing (i.e., neurons) are more radioresistant. A cell that is radiosensitive would be more inclined to die after exposure to ionizing radiation than a radioresistant cell (1). Although new terms such as “more or less radioresponsive” are now being used, the basic tenets of their hypothesis hold true for living tissue reactions to ionizing radiation (2). Therefore, cells undergoing active mitosis are more likely to have an effect from ionizing radiation, and stem cells (bone marrow, stomach mucosa, germ layer of the skin) are much more radiosensitive than neurons, which either never replicate or do so very slowly. Experiments in fruit flies and mice have shown that the effects of ionizing radiation can cause mutations in progeny, but these mutations are not specific to radiation. Such mutations are similar to ones that have already been found to occur spontaneously in nature. Furthermore, the experiments showed that the effects of ionizing radiation depend on total dose and exposure rate. A large dose given in a short amount of time is more damaging than the same dose given over a longer period of time (3).

The interaction of radiation with cells is a probability function. Because cellular repair usually takes place, permanent damage will not necessarily result from an interaction of ionizing radiation with living tissue. Energy deposition to a cell occurs very quickly, in some 10 −18 s, with the energy being deposited in the cell in a random fashion. All interactions happen on a cellular level, which in turn may affect the organ and the entire system. In addition, there is no unique cellular damage associated with radiation. Any damage to a cell due to radiation exposure may also happen due to chemical, heat, or physical damage. After radiation exposure to a cell, there is a latent period before any observable response. The latent period could be decades for low radiation doses, but only minutes or hours for high radiation exposure. These basic generalizations form the foundation on which radiation biology is based (4).

Who gives radiation therapy treatments?

During your radiation therapy, a team of highly trained medical professionals will care for you. Your team may include these people:

  • Radiation oncologist: This doctor is specially trained to treat cancer with radiation. This person oversees your radiation treatment plan.
  • Radiation physicist: This is the person who makes sure the radiation equipment is working as it should and that it gives you the exact dose prescribed by your radiation oncologist.
  • Dosimetrist: This person helps the radiation oncologist plan the treatment.
  • Radiation therapist or radiation therapy technologist: This person operates the radiation equipment and positions you for each treatment.
  • Radiation therapy nurse: This nurse has special training in cancer treatment and can give you information about radiation treatment and managing side effects.

You may also need the services of a dietitian, physical therapist, social worker, dentist or dental oncologist, pharmacist, or other health care providers.

How to reduce your everyday exposure to artificial electromagnetic fields

Simple tips and solutions to easily reduce your daily exposure to artificial electromagnetic fields from cell phone masts, cordless phones, Wi-Fi modem-routers, electrical appliances, cables and power lines, transformers etc.

Mobile Phones

  • Remove the cell phones from your head during calls by using speakerphone or cable hands-free.
  • Do not carry the phone in your pocket when you talk, as the genital area is particularly sensitive to wireless radiation.
  • Limit your talk time, using it only when it is really necessary - it is advised to send an SMS rather than talk over the phone.
  • Fixed telephone lines are preferred, especially when making long calls.
  • It is better to make calls when you have 3G signal as the radiation emitted is much less than when you have 2G signal.
  • Avoid using the phone in areas with bad signal, because the phone will transmit at full power in order to get a signal (usually the best signal is next to windows).
  • Avoid using your mobile phone inside the car, on trains, boats, buses etc. because the radiation will be recycled internally as it gets reflected from metal surfaces, but also as you move the mobile phone transmits at full power trying to connect to the nearest antenna.
  • Using a bluetooth headset is not recommended since it is a weak but permanent radiation source (exception: when you talk too much on the cell phone, especially in areas with poor signal, it is preferable to keep your phone and bluetooth headset away from your body and only pick up your bluetooth headset when you have a call).
  • Divide your talktime, by holding the cell phone on both sides of the head.
  • If you use a smartphone, turn on the downloadable data via Wi-Fi or the mobile network only when you want to browse the Internet. Most applications download data whenever they can, significantly increasing the radiation emitted by your cell phone.

Cell Phone Masts

  • Mobile phone antennas (base stations) radiate continuously.
  • They are usually installed on rooftops in residential and commercial buildings or on hills (especially next to busy roads)
  • They are everywhere - the more densely populated area, the more cell phone masts there are.
  • They affect most areas that have visual contact with the antennas.
  • Cell phone masts are often camouflaged as heaters, billboards, chimneys etc.

If your phone has low signal in your house, it means that your provider does not have an antenna near you or that their signal does not reach you. However, there may be a cell phone mast near you from other providers.

  • You can see if you exceed the recommended safety limits due to the cell phone masts in your area (visible or not) by using a High Frequency Radiation Meter.
  • Identifying the radiation hotspots will help you move your bed, your sofa and your desk away from them. that reflect more than 99% of wireless radiation offer simple solutions for protection from wireless radiation.
  • Since windows are the most vulnerable points of penetration from external wireless radiation, the largest decrease in radiation due to cell phone masts can be achieved by placing adhesive film or a curtain shield on the windows of the building (especially those facing the antenna).

  • The walls of the building reflect/absorb a portion of the external wireless radiation depending on the thickness and type of structural materials. Shielding the walls and ceilings internally or externally with electromagnetic shielding paint or stainless steel mesh can achieve an even greater reduction of radiation in the areas.

  • Practical solutions, at least for the sleeping areas, offer the electromagnetic shielding canopies which do not allow the penetration of radiation from most directions, ensuring minimal disturbance of your sleep by current and future wireless radiation sources.

Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi or WLAN)

  • The wireless modem-router you use to connect to the Internet constantly radiates, whether you are using it to browse the web or not.
  • Turn off the wireless function of your wireless router modem (usually by pressing a button - or through its online setting - ask the manufacturer if you do not know how) and use a network cable (ethernet) to connect your computer or laptop to the modem.
  • If you do not want to disable the wireless function of the modem, move it as far away from places where you spend most of your time and shut down the modem when you are not using it or at least during the evenings.
  • Alternatively, you can use Power Line adaptors (insert an adapter Powerline into an outlet and connect it to the modem and other adapters in sockets of remote rooms where you want to have internet connection).

Cordless Phones

  • The handset of the cordless telephone only radiates when you speak while the base of the cordless phone radiates constantly, even on stand by.
  • Replace your cordless telephone with a wired one or at least a wireless phone with zero radiation on stand by mode, the base of which emits radiation only when you make calls.
  • If you do not want to replace the cordless phone, place it as far away from places where most of your time (especially the bedroom).
  • During calls switch on the speakerphone, and place the headset as far away as possible from your body.

What to do About Your Neigbhours Wireless Devices (cordless phones, routers, etc.)

  • Since most houses now have cordless telephones, Wi-Fi modems or other wireless antennas such as baby monitors, cell phone signal repeaters, wireless game consoles, smart TVs etc you are likely to be exposed to high levels of wireless radiation because of your neighbors.

You might not use wireless devices and speak very little on your cell phone and still be exposed to cumulative higher radiation levels than heavy users of cell phones, due to your exposure to radiation from antennas of neighboring apartments or homes.

  • You can see how much wireless radiation is coming from neighbouring apartments by using a High Frequency Radiation Meter.
  • In cases of high radiation values because of your neighbors, you can move your bed, desk or sofa away from wireless hotspots.
  • Fabrics reflecting wireless radiation can be placed in the living room or your bed when the radiation source is located below.
  • With special electromagnetic shielding paint you can paint the walls where the wireless radiation comes from.

  • A practical solution, at least for the bedroom are the electromagnetic shielding canopies, which are especially useful in buildings with dozens of wireless phones and Wi-Fi networks.

Electrical Devices

  • Distance the high usage areas of your house (eg. bed, sofa, desk) away from:
  • High consumption appliances such as kitchen appliances, electric heaters, floor heating, boilers, etc.
  • Low voltage devices such as chargers, transformers, electric clocks, laptops, printers, lamps 12V bulbs etc.
  • Appliances with electric motors, such as the refrigerator
  • Electricity meter and electric panel
  • Photovoltaic system charger, generator, inverter
  • Boilers and other electromechanical installations

Electrical appliances such as shavers, hair dryers, blenders, vacuum cleaners etc. usually produce high magnetic fields. However, as they are not used for long periods of time, we do not think that they can cause residual biological effects (with the possible exception of people with electrohypersensitivity).

  • Limit the use of nonlinear load electronic devices which distort the mains signal: fluorescent and energy saving lamps, AC adapters, dimmer switches with electronic volume control etc.
  • Also avoid using fluorescent lamps and energy saving lamps in areas where you spend most of your time. It is recommended that you only use them in corridors and outdoors.
  • LED bulbs emit lower radiation, though there are concerns for their safety due to their brighter light.
  • Safer choices are incandescent lamps (if you can still find them on the market) and many types of halogen lamps (regular voltage - not low voltage).
  • Keep electrical appliances as far away from your bed as possible, especially if they are not grounded (their plug does not connect to the earthing pin of the power outlet).
  • Avoid using electric blankets or water beds or at least disconnect them from the electrical outlet before going to bed.
  • New technology flat screens (LCD) emit lower levels of radiation than the older type (CRT etc.). In any case, avoid sitting in their immediate vicinity.
  • Measure the radiation emitted by all your electrical appliances and avoid the radiation hotspots by using a Low Frequency Radiation Meter.

Laptops - Tablets

  • Using a laptop or tablet is an common source of electromagnetic fields exposure for a large portion of the population.
  • Due to their close contact with our bodies they expose us to elevated low frequency electric and magnetic fields due to their battery, cables and electrical circuits and high frequency fields. This is due to their WLAN or Wi-Fi antennas which connect wirelessly to the internet.
  • There is research which links the use of laptops to DNA damage and degradation of reproductive capacity.
  • You can distance the laptop from your body with the help of an external wired keypad.
  • By placing the laptop onto a laptop stand, the screen is lifted to an ergonomically correct height which helps you in avoiding future problems in the neck.
  • Turn off the wireless function of the laptop or tablet when you are not surfing the web.
  • It is better to use a wired internet connection by using an ethernet network cable to connect your laptop to the modem.
  • Alternatively, you can use powerline adaptors which pass the internet signal through your homes electrical circuits. This technology however is not the ideal substitute to networking with an ethernet cable because adding a high frequency signal to the electric network of the house is distorting the mains electricity signal (maybe a problem in homes with elevated low frequency electric fields).
  • Ethernet cables or powerline adapters can also be used with some tablets by using Ethernet to USB or mini USB adapters.
  • Laptops may emit elevated low frequency electric fields depending on if their plug is grounded or not, network cable connection etc. - only a measurement of electric fields can tell us the safest way to use the laptop.
  • Reduction of the electromagnetic fields to which your genitals are exposed when you have your laptop or tablet WiFi antennas enabled is possible by using electromagnetic shielding materials that reflect more than 99% of wireless radiation: Defenderpad (, Belly Armour (, Naturell fabric etc.

Electrical Cables

  • The electrical cables that are built into your walls produce low frequency electric fields 24 hours a day, as well as low freqeuncy magnetic fields when there is current flow (when you turn on the lights, operate electrical appliances, etc.).
  • The exact location of the cables is usually not obvious but can be detected by using a low frequency field meter.
  • Missing earth connections or faults in cable insulation often give high measurements of low frequency electric fields.
  • High magnetic fields are often created due to incorrect electrical connections (e.g. connecting the neutral conductors from different circuits) which are also a risk for fires or electric shock.
  • High values of radiation due to your home's wiring can be detected easily using a Low Frequency Radiation Meter.

Power Lines, Transformers, Substations etc.

  • High voltage transmission lines (100-500 kVolt) go through many populated areas and are connected to the more dense medium and low voltage power distribution lines (110/230/400 Volt - 50 kVolt).
  • To reduce the voltage from high to medium voltage lines and medium to low voltage lines we use voltage transformers (substations)
  • The electric fields emitted by cables and substations usually affect only outdoors areas since they are blocked by most building materials. In underground distribution lines, electric fields are always grounded.
  • However, magnetic fields emitted by cables penetrate almost all building materials.

According to statistics the most common causes of elevated magnetic fields are low voltage power lines which are everywhere and not the high voltage lines!

  • The values of the magnetic fields that power lines emit are not easy to predict since they depend on many factors such as power consumption, the provision of electricity conductors, the connections of the local distribution network etc.
  • A flickering TV or computer screen is a possible indication of the presence of very high values of magnetic fields.
  • You can find out whether your house is exposed to high electric or magnetic fields by using a Low Frequency Radiation Meter.

Shielding Solutions for Wireless Radiation

Electromagnetic shielding solutions minimize the penetration of artificial high frequency radiation and are recommended especially for bedrooms, because electromagnetic interference is considered more aggravating during the critical hours of sleep.

Shielding solutions also protect against any future presence of new radiation sources (e.g. new cell towers, new neighbors wireless devices, new radio stations and amateur radio antennas, WI-MAX networks, private security, transport companies and taxi networks, smart meters, radars and a variety of other wireless applications).

The all-round shielding of an area that protects against the penetration of wireless radiation from all directions, is achieved by painting the walls and ceilings internally or externally with electromagnetic shielding paint and placing shielding film or curtain on windows.

A practical solutions for the bedrooms are the electromagnetic shielding canopies. They do not allow radiation penetration from all directions (except from the bottom of the bed - but there are shielding fabrics or gauges for positioning under the mattress or on your bed).
